Our Thailand visit is coming to an end and it’s been a great trip visiting and training on Koh Phangan and Koh Samui islands (@ Chinarrach, Yuthpan and Pinyo Camps) having 2 fighters win their fight (@ Chaweng Stadium) and experiencing Bangkok for a few days at the end (trained at Vorapin already).

We went to Lumpini Stadium last night and watched one of the biggest promotions ever with 11 super fights including 9 championship fights. The standard was unbelievable, Saenchai (who is so well known in Europe) was beaten quite easily by a young Thai champion most Europeans have not heard of!! The first fight was very touching, it was the the current champions retirement fight at the age of 39 and 40,000Baht (800 pounds) was collected for him and he gave a very emotional and humble thank you speech in the ring immediately before he fought then proceded to win his last fight. It was amazing to watch these awesome fighters who were getting rubbed down outside the toilets and were more than happy to have their photo taken with anyone who asked, the respect that was shown to each other and the way they entered the arena with no entrance music or fanfare was very humbling.

We bumped into Stephan Fox (Vice President of the WMC) who invited Mick to be interviewed on Fox TV who were covering the event live and broadcasting to millions of viewers worldwide. Stephan very kindly commented on Mick being one of the pioneers of Muay Thai in the UK from the late 70’s and they spoke about how Thai Boxing had changed over the years.

The lads are going to the beautiful Grand Palace tomorrow and we are training at Jitti’s gym in the afternoon before flying home late tomorrow evening. We are looking forward to getting back to Wicker Camp so will see you very soon.
