Charity Bike Ride

Charity Bike Ride

As you maybe aware since my BHF bike ride in Cambodia/Vietnam in 2012 I have personally been supporting a small local charity in Siem Reap in Cambodia called ‘Smiles of Angkor Childrens Village’. This charity is run by a wonderful teacher Mr. Kimthol Yeoun a his partner. Their charity provides grass root education to the poorest of children in one of the poorest areas in Cambodia. They have managed over the last few years to build 3 new schools and provide clean drinking water, food and a consistent education for the local children. You can read about their fantastic work on their website www.angkorcharity.com.

Since 2012 you have helped me raise money for this charity and we have together helped to provide a clean water well at one of the schools, provide flip flops for the school children who used to walk to school bare foot and provide basic healthcare checks for the children. Some children have to walk 10 miles to attend school as there are no public buses and they cannot afford bikes. This can be the reason why some children never go to school so I am now helping to raise a few hundred pounds to go towards providing bicycles to those children who live the furthest away.

I have managed to talk 5 women from the gym – Sinead Gibney, Sam Badger, Marina Inkles, Karen Mitchell and Angela Dennis to cycle 385 miles with me in northern Spain from Bilbao to Santiago De Compostela!! The ride will be over 6 days on roads and track through beautiful grasslands and plains and small villages and towns and to keep costs down we will be staying in basic pilgrims hostels on route. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you very much to these brave women who have agreed at personal expense to take part in this fundraising adventure.

All the money raised will be sent to ‘Smiles of Angkor Childrens Village’ to put towards the bike fund. You can sponsor the women individually or sponsor us all as a group, look out for sponsor forms on reception. Many thanks to you all for your continued support.
