Final Wickerpedia 2014

2014 seems to have gone so fast and has been another great year at Wicker Camp where we’ve been very busy all year with all sorts of events such as charity fundraising, interclub competitions and gym shows featuring up and coming fighters. The gym has gone from strength to strength staying busy and popular with new and exciting classes and we have welcomed lots of new students and members to the Wicker Camp family.

Instructors – 2014 has seen a new batch of trainee instructors successfully finish the grading syllabus and start their journey through the instructors programme shadowing in the classes; Rob Carter, Jordan Gerrard (LJ), Chrystian Korzienowski, Tobias Pitts, James Pierce, Hamdi Karim.

Women Only Classes – 2014 has steadily seen the women only classes grow in popularity and have been a great success story for many women. Some have achieved amazing results becoming fitter, stronger and losing weight and for some the women only classes have been a stepping stone onto learning Thai Boxing and successfully grading. Well done and thank you for all your hard work and support.

Charity – we have had an excellent year supporting local and international charities. 2014 saw the beginning of a long term sponsorship programme supporting a little Thai girl called La-Orngdao who lives in the north of Thailand. You have helped to raise money for my charity ‘Smiles of Angkor Childrens Village’ in Cambodia £300 from a team sparring event earlier in the year and more recently a whopping £1,066 in November from our bike ride in Spain. (2015 will see a designated page on the website keeping you informed of progress and support). Pooley did his charity come back fight in August which was a memorable performance and a great show and Pete has just done his 24 hour padwork event this month both supporting Sheffield Childrens Hospital and raising just under £2,000 between the two events.

2015 and what’s in store……………………..

New Classes – we will be piloting 2 new classes starting from Tuesday 6th January. They will run every Tuesday and Thursday evening 9pm to 9:45pm and will be a circuit fitness based class. We will also be introducing a few open session nights each month to allow any student of any grade to come down and train at their own pace and do their own thing.

International Fights – we are starting the new year with some great opportunities for our fighters competing abroad. James Pierce will be fighting in Madrid Spain in February, James Ogden is fighting in Milan Italy in February and again in Buenos Aires in Argentina in April along with Jaz Meates.

Thailand – I will be organising a gym trip to Thailand in November with James Ogden, James Pierce and Chrystian Korzienowski fighting at Rajadamneon Stadium. The trip is a training holiday (family and friends welcome) and a detailed travel pack will be available from reception in January.

Happy New Year – we want to take this opportunity to wish you all good health, happiness and love for 2015 and hope Wicker Camp will be a part of your life for many years to come. Mick Trix and Roo.xxx
