East End Park Leeds15th June

On Saturday 15th June in Leeds two of our juniors fought, Jack Cooke and Sam Humphries. Strangely they fought identical twins the Atkinson brothers from Wolf Thai in the north east. The twins were of similar weight and same age but physically bigger and stronger. Both Jack and Sam had tough fights and gave 100%. Jacks opponent was visibly stronger all round and although Jacks work rate in the fight was higher but he couldn’t match his opponents strength. Jack used everything very well landing good punches, knees and kicks but his opponent was just too strong and soaked it all up whilst landing more effective stronger kicks and punches that eventually took their toll and wore Jack down towards the 4th and 5th rounds. It was an excellent fight to watch and Jack really did fight his heart out but the judges decision was to

To ALL UK Muay Thai Promoters out there, can you help?

I am looking to match female fighter JILLIAN CORBETT (65-70kg) To fight for a Thai-Boxing British title. She has a good fan base and will sell tickets. As you can appreciate, there aren’t many girls around at that weight who are willing to fight, so we, at Wicker Camp, are prepared to pay for UK sanction and belt in order to get this fight on ( NO purse required). Her next fight is not until Sept 11 and she is ready to fight NOW. We hope we can get her matched between now and September.

Two of our young teenage up and coming fighters compete this weekend in Leeds. Sam Humphries and Jack Cooke are fighting local Leeds lads at the East End Park Club on Saturday. Roo (6yrs) will be doing a demo bout too. We wish them all good luck.

5pm – Super Sparring class. More and more students are discovering the exhilarating benefits of coming to our Friday early evening sparring classes. You either “love” sparring or you need to “learn to love sparring”; whichever it is, you’ll get what you need from this superb class. S’ok if you can’t make it bang on 5pm, I know some of you don’t finish work until 5 so just hurry on down and join us as soon as you can. Don’t forget gumshield (everyone) and (guys) groinguard…..shinpads are optional. 15 glorious rounds of Muay Thai sparring for you to feast upon and there’s a FREE icy and delicious special treat for EVERYONE after sparring tonight!!!!!

7pm – Mick’s World of Pain class. Had dozens of messages this week from students asking if they can come to the Muay Thai Strength & Conditioning class. EVERYONE is invited to this “muscle contracting extravaganza”!!! You’ll get a warm welcome whether you’re a Thai Boxer or not, male or female. You won’t believe the old school (and mostly forgotten) strength building exercises that fighters use to get that unique variation of strength and power – YOU will too. No Martial Arts experience is necessary for this extreme power building experience.

8pm – Adult beginners class. Our Friday night complete beginner’s class has an unusual twist to it… students will get an opportunity to have a go at proper Thai bagwork AND Padwork in this special Muay Thai class taught by the inimitable “Kru Pooley”.

Just to remind you the gym will be open tomorrow morning (Wednesday) at 7am for open session training. Come along and do some bagwork, padwork, boxing blows or anything you like to kick start your day. Trix
